Football cult hero Nicklas Bendtner is currently smashing it on Fantasy Premier League - with the former Arsenal man being 199th in the world rankings.

Bendtner made a name for himself as an outspoken forward at the Gunners, before enjoying a career across Europe's top leagues.

He now appears as a pundit on Denmark's TV2 and takes part in their fantasy league, with great success.

Ironically named 'Draftlord' in reference to his 'Lord' moniker, Bendtner has 1722 points at the time of writing.

This week has been slower for Bendtner but Bruno Fernandes' performance vs Newcastle has saved the gameweek.

Fantasy football has been in the news this week due to the saga surrounding Jack Grealish's injury.

The Aston Villa captain suffered a shin injury in the week and missed Sunday's 2-1 defeat to Leicester City - with it leaking prior to the game.

The Athletic reported teammates Matt Targett, Conor Hourihane [on loan at Swansea City] and Neil Taylor all transferred the 25-year-old out of their team prior to his injury being confirmed.

Other members of staff also did so, including physio Rob Marshall.

The Times have since revealed Villa players and staff have been urged to not play fantasy football, although the leak wasn't related.

Villa manager Dean Smith discussed Grealish's injury following Sunday's 2-1 defeat and he was aware of the news.

"I've been made aware that on social media there were some rumours that he wasn't going to play," he said.

"If it's coming out of our training ground, then I find out where it is coming from and reprimand where it's coming from.

"Yeah, it certainly does [give a leg up] and it's something I wouldn't be happy with so we'll certainly get to the bottom of this."

Over seven million football fans register to play FPL every season and it's become an important part of fan culture.
