It would have been easier for the forward to score.

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting's miss for PSG against Strasbourg earlier this year will go down as miss of the decade.

The 30-year-old Cameroon international was handed the perfect opportunity to score his second goal of the game back in April.

Following on from his opener in the 13th minute, Dani Alves passed the ball into the path of Christopher Nkunku, who lofted a ball over to Choupo-Moting.

The former Stoke City man then messed up the simplest of chances in what will go down as a legendary howler.

There have been complete shockers in the past, but this one takes things to a whole new level of ridiculous.

What's worse is the fact that Choupo-Moting's 'shot' stopped Nkunku from scoring, especially as it was heading into the back of the net anyway.

Furthermore, PSG went on to draw this game and if they'd have won, it would have sealed the Ligue 1 title.

Thomas Tuchel's side would go on to win the title anyway but it's still an extra layer of drama.

Fans are still in awe at how Choupo-Motig messed up such a simple task.

It wasn't just fans who were shocked.

French superstar Kylian Mbappe watched on from the PSG bench and even he looked bemused.

In his post match comments, Choupo-Moting struggled to pin point how he missed such a simple chance:

"Even for me it's hard to explain. I saw the pictures and I'm sorry because the ball was entering the net on Nkunku's shot," he said per AS.

"There had to be a goal. At first I thought he was going to pass me the ball, then he shot. I thought the defender was going to counter him, that's why I hesitated.

"I wanted to go to the ball, put it in the net... but it went very fast, it may not be easy to understand but it goes very fast.

"I wondered if I was offside or not. And if the ball was going to enter so don't touch it... I had a bad reflex. I touched the ball, it stayed on the line and touched the post...I wasted this opportunity."

At least he has managed to carve out his own place in footballing history, despite the circumstances.
