Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland responded brilliantly to Bayern Leverkusen fans' abuse in his side's 4-3 victory this afternoon.

Haaland, who netted twice, ruthlessly dispatched a penalty to give the visitors the lead with just 13 minutes to go and was pelted with plastic cups as he went to celebrate with his teammates.

However, the 21 year old didn't let the hate get to him and instead mocked the home support by pretending to drink from one of the cups that had landed at his feet.

His Dortmund teammate, England star Jude Bellingham, was also caught on camera making an astonishing grab for a cup that was flying in his direction.

Haaland's actions were very similar to those of Declan Rice, who celebrated Raheem Sterling's opener for England against Hungary during the international break in an identical manner.

The Norwegian striker's brace proved to be decisive for Marco Rose's men. After falling behind early on to a Florian Wirtz effort, 'The Terminator' restored parity with a terrific towering header just before half time.

Equalisers from Julian Brandt and Raphaël Guerreiro took the game to 3-3 heading into the final quarter, with Haaland's spot-kick making sure that period and the match belonged to BVB.

Haaland and his teammates have enjoyed a strong start to the new season. They currently sit 3rd in the table, with Haaland already with 5 goals to his name.

The forward has said he's enjoying working with new manager Marco Rose and is optimistic about his side can kick on this this year.

"I know him from before because I had six months with him at Salzburg," he said in a pre-season interview with Stadium Astro. "He's a nice guy and I look forward to working with him.

The training is so hard here, so it's exactly the same as it was in Salzburg, a lot of hard training and there is going to be a lot of running. We won the DFB Pokal last season which was very important for us as a club and the fans. That was important and we have to see."

Dortmund now travel to Beşiktaş on Wednesday night for their opening match of the Champions League for 2021/2022.
