Newcastle United are ready to make another approach for Real Betis attacking midfielder Nabil Fekir, according to Estadio Deportivo.

The 28-year-old has produced a series of impressive displays for the Spanish side, and has 2 goals and 2 assists to his name across all competitions so far this campaign.

Betis are keen to tie down the France international to a new contract, with his current deal set to expire in June 2023.

Sport Witness reports that there have only been approaches from Russia and Qatar so far, but that could change if Fekir does not tie himself down to a longer contract with Los Verdiblancos.

Fekir joined Betis from Lyon in July 2019, after scoring 69 goals in 193 appearances for the French club. Since arriving in Andalusia, he has made 14 appearances in 81 appearances for Betis, which has seemingly been enough for Newcastle to re-ignite their interest in him.

New director Amanda Staveley is determined to build a squad capable of challenging for the very highest honours in the game, and this exciting long-term vision may persuade Fekir to make the move to Tyneside.

The club's new owners were confirmed on Thursday after the Saudi-led ยฃ300 million takeover was completed, with bold aims to propel the club back to the top end of the Premier League.

But as well as also being linked with Newcastle last summer, Liverpool were reportedly close to taking the midfielder to Anfield three years ago. The Times reported that Fekir's agent at the time halted what would have been a dream move to Merseyside.

Newcastle return to Premier League action after the international break on Sunday 17th October when they host Tottenham Hotspur at St James' Park. They then travel to Crystal Palace on Saturday 23rd October, before concluding the month a visit from Chelsea a week later.
