Arsenal Legend Eyes Return With Club

The former Arsenal player wants a move back to the Emirates.

Robert Pires has set his sights on a return to Arsenal as part of the club's coaching staff, following the news that manager Arsene Wenger will be departing the club.

Frenchman Pires was an integral part of the Gunners halcyon years of the early noughties and has a deep connection to Arsenal supporters for his knack of scoring superb goals, namely the famous chip over Peter Schmeichel, and his likable character.

Now the club legend is eying a return to the club, in a coaching capacity, according to tabloid paper The Daily Mirror.

Pires has a long and close relationship with fellow national Wenger and it's thought that his connection to the club, their tactics and their character, could be a great addition to the squad and a way for Arsenal not eradiate all ties with the legacy that Wenger left behind in his 22 year reign at the clu

Pires won an impressive two Premier League titles and two F.A Cups during his time in North London and has revealed all on the Daily Mirror podcast: "If the next manager wants my help, I will say yes."

"I want to help Arsenal and I want to help the new manager.

"I want to be on the staff. I think I can help."

Pires has applied for roles at the club before but was snubbed. He still is an ambassador at Arsenal and has frequently told the club's hierarchy of his interest of joining in with the day-today activities of the club, like by being a part of the coaching staff.

"It is an option for me and I hope it is an option for Arsenal," he said.

"Arsenal have recently had a new sporting director from Dortmund, which for me is not a problem, I respect the decision.

"But I think that some ex-players can help Arsenal. We know the high level and we won some titles.

"If I can give some advice for the players, it would be good."

A move for Pires into a coaching role could well see him join up and working alongside Mikel Arteta, the Spaniard would has been heavily linked to the Arsenal job and is favourite to get the job and become new Arsenal boss.
