Video Of Anthony Martial 'Warming Up' Suggests Why He Didn't Play

The Manchester United forward stayed on the bench against Chelsea in the 1-1 draw and clearly this could be why.

Anthony Martial was an unused substitute in Manchester United's draw with Chelsea on Sunday and based on fan footage of his warm up before the match there's no mystery in why Alexis Sanchez was used and not him.

Manchester United's recent run of results have been awful and it's more than just their quality that has come into question with even their effort being questioned by pundits.

Last week ahead of the Manchester derby Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made big changes to his squad and again before the Chelsea game on Sunday he did the same thing.

Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, Fred and Jesse Lingard all played against Manchester City in midweek and then didn't feature in the 18 man squad against Chelsea.

Anthony Martial didn't start against City but did come off the bench in the second half. Against Maurizio Sarri's side he once again started the match as a substitute.

However this time he stayed on the sidelines as Alexis Sanchez, Marcos Rojo and Scott McTominay were used as substitutes instead.

If anyone was wondering why Martial wasn't used then one look at him not even moving during the warm up will tell you exactly why:

It really isn't a glowing example of putting in any effort whatsoever and even with the Frenchman knowing he was starting on the bench you'd expect him to put more in.

Under Jose Mourinho the former Monaco forward wasn't being used much and looked likely to leave Old Trafford and it was felt that the former manager didn't think the 23 year old worked hard enough for the team, and he may have just been proved right.

With Martial not being used the only attacking substitution Solskjaer could use was bringing on Alexis Sanchez.

The former Arsenal forward has been poor this season and last week against City he only touched the ball once after coming on with 13 minutes left.

He wasn't much better against the Blues on Sunday as United's chances of finishing in the top four all but disappeared after David de Gea's latest mistake allowed Marcos Alonso to equalise after Juan Mata's opener.

There's likely to be huge change over the next few transfer windows at United, even with a big new contract don't be surprised if Martial is one of the players to go if he continues to put in so little effort.
