Referee Blew The Whistle As Leganes Had Chance To Equalise Vs Real

Players and fans were fuming that the La Liga referee blew

The FIFA game series shows us that a referee should only blow the full time whistle when the ball is close to the half-way line but one referee in La Liga clearly doesn't know that rule after Saturday's Real Madrid game.

In any of the FIFA games you always know you've got one more chance to score a goal as long as you keep the ball in the final third of the pitch, once it goes clear you know the 'ref' will blow the whistle.

In actual reality the man in black will often wait as long as possible on an attack before he has to blow the whistle, without keeping the game alive just for the sake of waiting and we all know most final whistles happen after a goal kick.

Of course the referee doesn't have to wait for an attack to end before blowing the whistle and the only thing he has to wait for is a penalty. But that doesn't stop the moment the ref, in Real Madrid's 2-1 win over Leganes, blew the whistle as Leganes looked for an equaliser look ridiculous:

The players were absolutely fuming and that led to Gabriel Pires being sent off for his protests to the ref.

Fans on Twitter were just as annoyed:

Gareth Bale, on what is a rare start these days, got the ball rolling for Los Blancos with a goal after just seven minutes before young forward Borja Mayoral doubled the lead just before half time.

Darko Brašanac pulled a goal back just after the hour mark before the referee really made it a controversial finish for no good reason.
