One Spurs Fan Left The Ajax Game At Half Time

Ajax led 2-0 on the night and 3-0 on aggregate after 45 minutes on Wednesday before Lucas Moura's hat-trick turned the game around.

Leaving a football match early has always been a silly thing to do but one Spurs fan took looking silly to a new level when he seemingly left the Johan Cruyff arena at half time of their Champions League comeback.

There are stories of Manchester United fans leaving the Nou Camp early in 1999 and more recently one Manchester City fan left the ground as Raheem Sterling seemingly put his team through to the Champions League semi-final, only to find the goal was disallowed by VAR during an interview outside the ground.

Football can be swung one way or the other in such a quick time by its nature because goals are so valuable that unless there's four goals difference it's never worth leaving early.

After all this week we've seen both Liverpool and Spurs overcome 'halftime' deficits of three goals to move into the Champions League final.

And it seems one fan didn't heed the teachings of previous foolish fans. The Spurs fan in question posted a picture outside the Johan Cruyff arena, waving, at 9pm on Wednesday night.

That would have been half time with Spurs 2-0 down on the night and 3-0 down on aggregate, before Lucas Moura's second half hat-trick:

Matthijs de Ligt's header and Hakim Ziyech's brilliant curled finish gave Ajax a 2-0 lead on the night and 3-0 over the two legs and made it look certain they'd be joining Liverpool in the final.

Spurs game out firing in the second half though and Moura scored twice in four minutes just before the hour mark to give Mauricio Pochettino's team hope.

But 30 minutes later they hadn't scored the all important goal and time was running out in injury time before the Brazilian forward stroked home his third of the night to start wild scenes.

Whilst English fans inside the ground cheered and lost themselves in the moment, and Dutch fans slumped back into their seats, one man must have been equal parts euphoric and annoyed.

Never leave football early, it has a way of biting you on the arse.
