14 Current Premier League Sides Have Scored A Hat-Trick More Recently Than Manchester United

Diogo Jota's hat-trick for Wolves against Leicester City on Saturday took them ahead of Manchester United, who haven't done it in six years.

Manchester United's goal scoring issues under Jose Mourinho were extremely well known but those issues clearly existed before their former manager based on the stat of most recent Premier League hat-tricks.

It's been raining goals at Old Trafford recently. When previously there had been a drought, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's rain dance has been working perfectly since he took over from Jose Mourinho.

Under Mourinho this season the Red Devils managed just 29 goals in the Premier League in 17 games. In the six league games since he left United have scored 17.

Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba have been the main beneficiaries of the goals since the change of manager, although it'll be the fans who are most grateful for the change in fortunes.

However United's goal issues go back much further than Mourinho and that's highlighted by the fact that no player has scored a Premier League hat-trick for the team since Sir Alex Ferguson retired.

Robin van Persie's title winning tripe against Aston Villa in 2013 is the last time a player for the Old Trafford side managed one. 14 of the current Premier League teams have scored one since.

Only Fulham, who have been out of the Premier League for most of that period, Watford and Brighton have scored top tier hat-tricks less recently whilst Huddersfield and Cardiff have never managed one.

It's quite shocking to see sides such as Crystal Palace, Newcastle United and Burnley ahead of United on that list.

Nothing against those sides but they certainly aren't known for their goalscoring exactly.

The fact there's been nearly six years, three managers, numerous strikers and no Premier League titles since tells a lot about the malaise the club have been in since Fergie retired.

Diogo Jota's hat-trick at the weekend makes him the most recent player to score three in a game in England's top tier and helped Nuno Espírito Santo's side to a dramatic 4-3 win over Leicester.

In all there have been 62 Premier League hat-tricks since Van Persie's and Harry Kane has scored eight of them since a United player registered one.

West Brom, Sunderland, QPR and Aston Villa, all playing below the Premier League, have scored more recent top tier hat-tricks.

That run without one surely has to come to an end sooner rather than later.
