Lionel Messi Knew In The Line-Ups It Was Going To Be A Bad Day

Lionel Messi Knew In The Line-Ups It Was Going To Be A Bad Day

It was a horror night for the two time World Cup winners and Lionel Messi as they went down 3-0 to Croatia.

Argentina put in possibly one of their worst performances ever at a World Cup but by the looks of things Lionel Messi knew it was coming even before kick off.

From one of the favourites to a laughing stock in the space of 180 minutes. Argentina probably shouldn't have been one of the favourites but with their history and one of the world's best players everyone automatically expects more of them than they should.

In their first game they drew 1-1 with Iceland with Lionel Messi missing the chance to win the game from the penalty spot in the second half.

In the second game they were stuffed by Croatia 3-0 as Willy Caballero's huge error early in the second 45 minutes kicked off a collapse.

Messi couldn't affect the game at all as Argentina's defence failed to give him a platform and there seemed to be little to no structure to their game plan and it seems the Barcelona forward man knew it was going to be a tough game even before kick off:

Things aren't looking good for Argentina's chances of getting through to the next round now. The point against Iceland does mean that no matter the result between Iceland and Nigeria they aren't out.

The Scandinavians need four points from their remaining two games to secure their place in the next round whilst the South Americans must beat Nigeria to have any chance.

For Messi another failure will mean more comparisons with Cristiano Ronaldo not going his way but considering everything that has happened that simply isn't fair.
