Joey Barton can officially claim to be part of Burnley's promotion to the top flight as champions after receiving his winners medal, a day after their promotion presentation.

A mix-up between the football club and the Football League saw him denied of one at the celebrations yesterday because they didn't have enough. James Tarkowski was also another unlucky member to have not received one.

The Clarets player of the season took to Twitter to state his frustration.

Barton was the penultimate player to take to the presentation stage, though there was a medal left, that was reserved for skipper Tom Heaton who was set to lift the trophy. Football League representatives refused to hand it over to the midfielder.

After refusing to lift the trophy, the 33-year-old made light of the incident by raising an inflatable version to the crowd whilst participating in the activities. The embarrassing situation came about as a result of Burnley submitting 27 players to receive a medal, although being told by the Football League they would only have 25.

Despite the error, the final medals were allocated as Barton was pictured this morning with the Championship trophy as well as his winner's medal.

Barton can now boast three promotions to the premier league, having done so with Newcastle and QPR.
