Southampton Fans Tweet Hilariously Backfires After Shane Long Goal

The striker finally broke his goal scoring drought but it was extremely bad timing for one Saints fan.

They'll be plenty of people whose New Year's Resolution had something to do with being careful what you tweet, lord know I know I should stop using it as such a cry for help, and one Southampton fan will be more careful after tonight.

Life is not going well in the slightest for Southampton right now. Mauricio Pellegrino only took over in the summer but hist job must be under pressure with the Saints sitting above the relegation zone merely on goal difference.

One thing that certainly hasn't helped is their lack of goals. Manolo Gabbiadini has only bagged three goals, Charlie Austin isn't doing too much better on six and before tonight Shane Long hadn't scored in 10 months.

In fact Harry Kane had scored 50 goals since Long last got on the scoresheet. That was until his opener for the Saints against Crystal Palace. But it wasn't good news for the south coast side, who still lost 2-1, or one of their fans because of his pre match tweet:

And it had been such a massive amount of time since the Irishman's last goal social media could barely believe he'd scored:

In the end it wasn't a good night for Southampton or Long. But it could be worse, he could be that chaps wife!
