Football pundits can be easy to criticise sometimes because they put their opinions out there for us all to prod and poke with a stick. So thank the lord for Paul Merson because there's a lot of stick prodding to be had.
Merson was a very good footballer in his day, winning titles and the FA Cup with Arsenal and helping Portsmouth into the Premier League for the first time amongst many years of being a quality forward.

That's sometimes very easy to forget because the 49 year old is now best known for being Soccer Saturday's resident clown every week on Sky Sports. Merson has made 'beans on toast' and getting people's names wrong a staple of our footballing week.
As well as his weekly stints attempting to describe what's going on at whichever Premier League game he's covering the former England international has also taken to coming up with combined XIs for the big games.
This week's big game is between Chelsea and Manchester City on Saturday evening and Merson had a go at working out his combined XI for the two title contenders:

The first thing to note is that the pundit says that his team is fairly even, despite the fact he's only picked three Manchester City players in it and that would only be four if Vincent Kompany was fit.
Mers doesn't even explain who the Chelsea back three is he's picking. We have to assume it's David Luiz, Cesar Azpilicueta and Gary Cahill but only because he mentions Cahill, the Englishman has played less than Antonio Rudiger this season.

Obviously up until now we've not brought up the fact that Merson has left out Kevin De Bruyne from his team despite the Belgian being one of the best players in the Premier League up until now.
He's not exactly the most popular pundit around:
Who would make your combined Chelsea and City XI?
