Footage Shows Donny Van De Beek's Subdued Reaction To Cristiano Ronaldo Winner Vs Atalanta

Donny van de Beek watched as Cristiano Ronaldo scored a late winner but he didn't look all that happy.

Donny van de Beek's subdued reaction to Cristiano Ronaldo's winner for Manchester United vs Atalanta on Wednesday night was caught on camera.

Ronaldo scored a wonderful header in the 81st minute to complete a stunning comeback, sparking incredible scenes at Old Trafford.

More than 70,000 fans erupted when Ronaldo leapt highest and hurriedly performed a knee slide near the corner flags.

But footage of the United bench has emerged and it shows that some players celebrated it more than others.

Coach Michael Carrick was going mental, while Jesse Lingard, Mason Greenwood and Juan Mata also hand their arms aloft.

As for Van de Beek, he stood up and applauded but he didn't crack a smile - looking more like he felt he had to give some sort of reaction.

United fans couldn't help but notice that the Dutchman's celebration was muted to say the least:

Van de Beek was once again an unused substitute in the five-goal thriller and continues to struggle for game-time at United.

He endured a nightmare first campaign following a £40 million switch from Ajax and has played just 141 minutes this term.

Solskjaer was asked about the 24-year-old's lack of minutes by Dutch media following the Atalanta win.

"I know he’s not happy, but he works hard and he’s a top professional," Solskjaer told RTL7.

"He knows that that’s the way that sometimes it works in football. At the moment he’s not playing but he doesn’t let himself down.

"Donny is still working hard, of course, and at the moment it’s hard. I understand Donny is frustrated, he’s disappointed but he keeps on working every day with a big smile."

Solskjaer also addressed Van de Beek throwing away his chewing gum when not brought on against Villarreal last month.

“It’s wiser to throw away your chewing gum and not to swallow it," the Norwegian joked.

"We learned that as children.

“And giving your chewing gum to someone else is not possible in these corona times either. Sensible, so I could see he was throwing it away.”
