RB Leipzig's Dominik Szoboszlai Showed His Supreme Confidence In Neymar Exchange Before Last Minute Penalty

RB Leipzig's Dominik Szoboszlai Showed His Supreme Confidence In Neymar Exchange Before Last Minute Penalty

Neymar questioned Dominik Szoboszlai's nerve and abilities but he had the perfect response.

RB Leipzig midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai showed he has ice in his veins when he silenced Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar in stoppage time last night.

The German side, having gone 1-0 up through Christopher Nkunku in the Champions League clash, missed a golden chance to extend their lead in the first half when Andre Silva saw his penalty saved by Gianluigi Donnarumma.

They were made to rue the miss as Georginio Wijnaldum struck twice - his first goals for this new club - to complete the turnaround in the opening 45 minutes.

But just when PSG looked like they were heading for a big away win in Group A, Presnel Kimpembe made the most ridiculous challenge on Nkunku inside the area and Leipzig were awarded a second spot-kick following a lengthy VAR check.

This time Szoboszlai grabbed the ball. The Hungarian was subjected to some classic mind games, with Neymar trying to get in his head.

It didn't work though as Szoboszlai made no mistake from 12 yards in the 92nd minute. Donnarumma guessed right but the power and placement was perfect and Leipzig collected their first point of the European campaign.

After the game, Szoboszlai revealed his exchange with Neymar and it speaks volumes of the confidence he has aged just 21.

When Neymar asked him if he was "sure" he was going to score, Szoboszlai replied, "I never miss” - and he wasn't lying.

Prior to the game and their subsequent chat, Szoboszlai had talked up Neymar and how he plays the game.

Szoboszlai joined Leipzig from sister club Red Bull Salzburg, where he was crowned the Austrian Bundesliga's player of the season for 2019/20 after hitting 9 goals and 14 assists in 27 league matches.

A persistent adductor injury meant the €20 million man didn't make his debut with Leipzig until August this year despite joining in January but already he's demonstrated his qualities with six goals and three assists.
