Davide Faraoni Scores Stunning Rocket Of A Volley To Hand Jose Mourinho First Defeat As Roma Manager

Jose Mourinho took to Instagram to express his disappointment after Roma's 3-2 defeat to Hellas Verona at the Stadio Marcantonio Bentegodi.

Davide Faraoni’s sensational second-half volley sealed a 3-2 win for Hellas Verona and condemned Jose Mourinho to his first defeat as Roma manager.

Lorenzo Pellegrini fired Roma into the lead in the first half of their Serie A clash at the Stadio Marcantonio Bentegodi on Sunday.

Antonin Barak pulled back an equaliser for Verona early in the second half before Gianluca Caprari added his side’s second in the 54th minute.

Mourinho’s men bounced back minutes later after Ivan Ilic bundled the ball in the back of the Verona net during his bid to intercept Tammy Abraham.

However, Faraoni ensured that Verona would walk away with all three points on the night after scoring the winner in the 63rd minute.

The 29-year-old Verona captain received the ball on the edge of the box and flicked it up with his first touch.

Faraoni had plenty of time to position himself and fired a rocket of a strike in off the underside of the bar with his second touch.

Rui Patricio stood little chance of stopping Faraoni’s sensational volley, with Mourinho retreating to the dugout ahead of making substitutions.

Mourinho, who was announced as Roma manager in May, took to Instagram after the match to express his disappointment with the result.

Posting a picture of himself, the Special One wrote to his 2.5m followers: “A face that says everything, but tomorrow is another day.”

Verona’s 3-2 win ends Mourinho’s seven-match unbeaten run as Roma head coach.

Roma are currently third in Serie A and are one point adrift of second-place AC Milan and league leaders Inter Milan.

Mourinho’s men will return to action on 23rd September for their Serie A clash with Udinese at the Stadio Olimpico.
