Cristiano Ronaldo's Son Thought Lionel Messi Was 'Too Small' To Be Real When He Met Him

Cristiano Ronaldo's son didn't think Lionel Messi was real when he met him as he found the Argentine legend to be "too short".

Despite his dad competing with Messi for prizes and records while sharing the stage for the best part of 15 years, Cristiano Jr is a huge fan of the six-time Ballon d'Or winner.

He has even called Messi his "idol" and Ronaldo told his long-time rival that his son always talks about him when they met in 2015.

Messi embraced Cristiano Ronaldo Jr and then a couple of years later when Ronaldo beat Messi to win his fifth Ballon d'Or winner, he again brought his son to the gala.

And Ronaldo's eldest child was in disbelief that he was in the presence of Messi, with his grandmother Dolores Aveiro revealing he couldn't quite get his head around his 5ft 5in height.

"I was with him and I said, 'look, it's Messi,' and he replied, 'that's not Messi, he's short," she said in an interview, as per MARCA.

"Then my son encouraged him to wave. Messi is a very good person. My grandson is already taller than him, [laughs] it was a very fun moment."

Cristiano Jr does have a point. After all, Messi is smaller than most on the pitch and had to receive injections as a youngster because he suffered from growth hormone deficiency.

It became routine for him to place a needle in his legs every night during his time playing for boyhood club Newell's Old Boys in Santa Fe, Rosario.

"I injected my legs once every night," Messi revealed in an interview with America TV in 2018.

"I started at 12 years old. It was not something that left an impression on me.

At first my parents gave me the injections from when I was eight years old until I learnt. It was a small needle.

“It did not hurt, it was something routine for me that I had to do and I did it normally.”

Messi's treatment was initially paid for by his parents and then Newell's but Barcelona stepped in to cover all the costs when they signed him up as a 13-year-old.

Last year, during an interview with Mundo Deportivo Messi revealed his eldest son Thiago is a big fan of Ronaldo among other players like Luis Suarez, Antoine Griezmann and Kylian Mbappe.
