Throwback: When Gennaro Gattuso Tried To Strangle Joe Jordan

Gennaro Ivan Gattuso is the new manager of AC Milan and if that news doesn't make you want to immediately get on the ale, then football probably isn't for you.

The former Rossoneri midfielder won two Champions Leagues during his time as a player at the San Siro and, alongside Andrea Pirlo established one of the greatest midfield partnerships of all time. The duo worked in perfect tandem; Pirlo would glide about the pitch, unlocking defences and bamboozling goalkeepers with his delicate range of passing and mind bending free kick prowess. Gattuso would tear arse around the turf like a ravenous bulldog, kicking the shit out of anything in site.

One on occasion, though, the World Cup winner tried to bite off far more than he could chew, when he squared up to then Tottenham assistant manager Joe Jordan, during a Champions League tie in 2011.

In the round of 16 clash at the San Siro, a Peter Crouch goal would gift Spurs the victory on a frustrating night for the Italians, which ended with Gattuso making what could have been the most catastrophic error of his career, when he attempted to pick a fight with Joe Jordan - a 59-year-old Scotsman with no front teeth who had made a career out of scoring goals and generally being absolutely fucking terrifying.

Luckily for Gattuso, his attempt at throttling Jordan was cut short as other players intervened, but the former Manchester United and Leeds United striker, who himself spent two years playing for Milan between 1981 and 1983, was in the mood for a fight, taking his glasses off and handing them to a nearby Spurs substitute.

For some reason, Gattuso didn't entirely heed the warning signs that things might not go his way should he become embroiled in an actual scrap with the affectionately nicknamed 'Jaws' and went back, bare chested, for seconds, this time attempting a headbutt. Once more the pair were separated and the former Rangers midfielder lived to see another day.

More of this on the San Siro touchline before Rino is fired for stabbing Riccardo Montolivo in the leg with a fork for misplacing a pass during a Milan derby, please.
