On This Day: Gazza's Gem Of A Goal Against Scotland

What a player, what a goal.

Depressingly, it's 21 years since football came home and more importantly, it's 21 years to this very day that Paul Gascoigne tormented memorable goal against the Scots at Euro 96.

Paired in the same group for the tournament, the Three Lions had drew their opening game 1-1 with Switzerland, while the Tartan Army held Netherlands to a stalemate ahead of the big game with England.

Infront of 76,864 fans at Wembley Stadium, England and Scotland locked horns in one football's most historic rivalries and it was the hosts who went ahead when Alan Shearer scored the opener minutes after the second half kicked off.

And then in the 79th minute came pure wizardry from Gascoigne and his bleach blonde haircut. Moments early, David Seaman had pulled off an exceptional penalty save to deny Gary McAllister from the spot and then Gazza, widely considered as one of the most gifted players to wear an England shirt, sealed the win.

When a lobbed through ball came into his path, Gazza was one step ahead of the game and swiftly flicked the ball over the helpless' Colin Hendry's head before volleying home at the near post.

Cue the infamous and exceptionally brilliant celebration ensued as England fans went mental. The strike remains one of the most memorable goals scored by an England player and is the one iconic memory England fans have from meetings with Scotland (apart from Uri Gellar making the ball move off the spot as Gary McAllister stepped up to miss a penalty right before Gascoigne worked his magic).

Twenty one years on and neither the old or new Wembley has seen another moment quite as perfect as Gazza's divine inspiration on 15th June, 1996.

What a player. What a goal. What a moment.
