Throwback: Remembering The Outrageous 2006 December Goal Of The Month Competition

Its that time of the month were football teams up and down the country prepare themselves for the busy Christmas Premier League schedule. But, in the meantime, lets take a trip down memory lane and celebrate the 11th anniversary of the greatest collection of thunderbastards the Premier League has ever seen.

The month of December is set to provide us with a stacked calendar of fixtures and hopefully more than a few instances of players absolutely leathering a football right into the net from at least 30 yards out. Though, with the likes of Paul Scholes, Frank Lampard, Didier Drogba and David Bentley strutting their stuff back in 2006, we're confident in saying the goals this season won't match the ones from 11 years ago.

From Blackburn's Norwegian import Morten Gamst Pedersen to a pile driver from Michael Essien not to mention ridiculous volleys courtesy of Matty Taylor, Drogba, Scholes and, erm Tom Huddlestone and Keith Gillespie.

Anyway, enough chat, it's time to gawk at one of the greatest selection of goals ever scored in a single month, anywhere, ever.

Can this December, over a decade later, finally be the one that tops the 2006 vintage of Scholes, Essien, Drogba, Gillespie and Huddlestone or are we doomed to wait forever for a group of players to spoil us over the course of 31 days in the same manner?

Which is your favourite of the bunch, though? Does Scholes' ping off the underside of the bar get you going or is the swerve of Michael Essien too much to resist?
