Spurs surprise defeat to Colchester United on Tuesday was a blow for Mauricio Pochettino's side but possibly not as big a blow as it was for one punter, who lost £13,000.

We all love a cup upset and anyone outside of Spurs fans would have thoroughly enjoyed seeing the Premier League side drop out of the Carabao Cup to League Two Colchester on penalties on Tuesday night.

Pochettino's side will no doubt be hurting but not as much as one fan, who missed out on £13,000 thanks to Lucas Moura and Christian Eriksen's missed penalties.

Imagine getting results right from the Argentinian fourth tier, the English Conference, Austrian Bundesliga, English non league and on a Scottish reserve team, only to lose your bet because Spurs couldn't beat a League Two side.

Spurs result topped off a poor week that saw them draw with Olympiacos in the Champions League, after throwing away a two goal lead, lost to Leicester City, after throwing away a one goal lead, and get knocked out of the cup.

The only thing that could be seen as a positive for the north London side is the fact that under Pochettino they haven't really focused on cup competitions and it hasn't stopped them progressing in the league and Europe.

On the night though there really was nowhere to hide for Spurs and their players with last season's Champions League finalists starting with Eric Dier, Davinson Sanchez, Dele Alli and Lucas Moura, as well as other international players.

Later Son Heung-min, Erik Lamela and Eriksen were all brought on to try and get a late winner for Poch's team but they couldn't break through at the Colchester Community Stadium.

Eriksen then missed the team's first spot kick and, despite Jevani Brown missing for the hosts, Moura's miss handed Colchester a famous win and left Spurs with red faces.

They'll now be hoping to bounce back against Southampton at the weekend, just don't bet on it.
