All-Female Officials Team To Take Charge Of England's World Cup Qualifier Vs Andorra In Historic Moment

Kateryna Monzul will referee in what will be the first time an all-female officials team has taken charge of a senior England men's game.

An all-female officials team will take charge of England's World Cup qualifier against Andorra this Saturday.

As confirmed on the official UEFA website, 40-year-old Kateryna Monzul will be the woman in the middle, supported by Ukranian compatriots Maryna Striletska and Svitlana Grushko.

Stephanie Frappart of France will be on VAR duty for the historic fixture, which marks the first time a female referee has officiated a senior men's England game.

Monzul is an experienced referee at international level in the women's game, having taken charge of her first match in September 2005.

As well as officiating in the Ukrainian Premier League since 2016, she has been a referee at eight major women's football tournaments.

Last year, she made history when she commanded the UEFA Nations League match between Gibraltar and San Marino.

The 0-0 draw was the first time an all-female officials team have refereed a senior men's international fixture.

Monzul will continue to blaze trails at Estadi Nacional - as will Frappart - the first woman to referee a Ligue One game, a men's Champions League game and the UEFA Super Cup.

The pair both took charge of men's World Cup qualifiers in March of this year.

Male officials Denys Shurman and Viktor Matyash will be fourth official and VAR assistant respectively.

The Premier League has yet to feature a female referee, though Sian Massey-Ellis has been an assistant referee for over a decade.

In April, Rebecca Welch etched her name in history when she became the female to referee in the Football League.

The groundbreaking news of the first all-female officials team in a England senior men's game comes after former referee Mark Clattenburg's controversial comments.

During an interview with talkSPORT, Clattenburg claimed women had to choose between refereeing and pregnancy - as well as stating that females struggle with the fitness tests.

He received huge backlash for his remarks.
