Adrian Features On Mural Of Liverpool's Most Legendary Goalkeepers And Fans Are Confused

Liverpool's most legendary goalkeepers have been celebrated in a mural at their training ground.

Liverpool have unveiled a new mural celebrating their legendary goalkeepers, though the inclusion of Adrian San Miguel has raised a few eyebrows.

The mural, commissioned by first-team goalkeeping coach John Achterberg and created by local artist John Culshaw, is on the wall of the goalkeeping training area at the club's AXA Training Centre.

In total there are 13 goalkeepers featured on the design, including the likes of Ray Clemence, Bruce Grobbelaar, Jerzy Dudek, Pepe Reina and Alisson Becker.

But so too is Adrian, currently third choice at Anfield. The former West Ham man did produce penalty shoot-out heroics in the UEFA Super Cup against Chelsea a couple of years back but plenty are surprised to see him included.

Liverpool's goalkeepers partake in drills with the artwork in the backdrop and Achterberg reckons it will serve as motivation.

"I think for everyone who comes out to train here, it’s a little bit of motivation seeing all the top goalies that have been here – and if they want to get there themselves, they have to produce,” he told Liverpool's official website.

“It tells something about the history of the club and what the goalkeepers have achieved here – and what the drive is from the club to achieve even more.

“But the motivation isn’t just for the young ‘keepers; there are goalkeepers on there like Ray Clemence and Bruce Grobbelaar who won a lot of trophies with the club, so if you want to top their records, you have to win more trophies and drive yourself on to be better every day.

“That’s the motivation for them and for the younger goalies, it is to show how hard you have to work to get to that position at the club.”

Adrian has played 25 times for Liverpool, including 11 times as they won the Premier League for the first time in 2019/20.
