Paris Saint-Germain are in pole position to sign Sergio Ramos after they reportedly made contact with the defender's representatives earlier this week.

After a 16-year trophy-laden career at Real Madrid, Ramos will be a free agent at the end of the month, with the defender failing to agree on a contract extension with the Spanish giants.

News of his sensational exit sent shockwaves round Europe, too, with several clubs keen on signing the veteran defender - but it is PSG who have made first contact with the player.

According to Goal, initial discussions have been held over the prospect of him moving to the Parc des Princes where he could form a formidable partnership with Brazilian defender Marquinhos.

The report also claims that Ramos' team has fielded enquiries from several clubs across Europe, though there are two clubs from England and one from Italy who are particularly interested.

But it is believed that Ramos is thought to prefer a switch to the French capital, however, an offer is yet to be tabled by PSG.

Mauricio Pochettino is on the hunt for the players, too, especially after conceding the Ligue 1 title to Lille last season - and Ramos will, almost certainly, be a player that will fit into their star-studded side.

On his next possible next club, Ramos told reporters at his Madrid farewell press conference: "Since January, when I've been on the market, we've had a few calls, but we never thought about leaving Madrid.

"From here we'll look for a good option for me."

Spanish radio station Cadena Cope report that Ramos has already told three of his ex-colleagues at Madrid that his next club will be PSG.

Once it's confirmed, Ramos will become the second free agent signed by PSG this summer after the French club took Gini Wijnaldum from beneath Barcelona's noses.
