Arsenal are on the verge of their second summer transfer signing with Belgian prodigy Albert Sambi Lokonga reportedly in London undertaking his medical.

The Gunners got their summer spending underway in style with the signing of the highly-rated Portuguese left-back Nuno Tavares, 21, from Benfica last week.

And he could soon be joined in the squad by Lokonga, also 21, with reports suggesting a deal for the Anderlecht midfielder is imminent.

Lokonga is set to arrive to partner Thomas Partey in the Gunners' midfield having impressed for in Belgium.

The young midfield maestro was a staple in Vincent Kompany's side, captaining Anderlecht to a third-place play-off finish in the Jupiler Pro League, before falling at the final hurdle and missing out on European football.

Having guided the Purple and Whites through unprecedented times, Lokonga won the respect of Belgium manager, Roberto Martinez - earning a maiden national team call-up in March 2021.

According to Sport 1, he will sign a contract until 2026, with Arsenal paying Anderlecht a £15m fee.

Keen to strengthen in several areas before the new Premier League season gets underway, plenty of big names at Arsenal are tipped to leave including Hector Bellerin, Granit Xhaka and Alexandre Lacazette.

Arteta's options in midfield are beginning to look thin, however, the Gunners have remained strong in the stance regarding the future of Emile Smith Rowe, who has been subject to a pair of bids from Aston Villa for £25m and £30m.

Meanwhile, talks are still ongoing with Brighton & Hove Albion defender Ben White, while playmakers such as Lyon's Houssem Aouar and Leicester City's James Maddison have also been heavily linked with the north London outfit.

Whether the Gunners can get a deal over the line for the three young stars is another question, though.
