Liverpool 'Preparing' £60m Bid For Italy's Euro 2020 Winning Midfielder

Liverpool are preparing a sensational bid for Inter Milan and Italy midfielder Nicolo Barella during this summer's transfer window, according to reports.

Impressing during this summer's European Championships, Barella played a pivotal role in Italy's triumph throughout the tournament which saw them go on to beat England on penalties in the Euro 2020 final.

It capped off a remarkable season for the 24-year-old, who also won the Serie A title with Inter last season - and now Liverpool are said to be closing in on his sought-after signature.

The midfield maestro played in six of his country's seven matches at the European Championships and missed only two games in the Italian top tier last term. How's that for consistency?

But his future with Inter remains unclear, with the Serie A outfit experiencing financial problems as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

According to la Repubblica, the Reds are among the clubs that could table a bid for Barella - and an offer of £60m could prove difficult for the Italian giants to turn down, especially given their financial predicament.

However, it is unclear whether Liverpool would be willing to part with £60m for Barella, especially after their mammoth spending over the last few years.

Having said that, though, the Reds have tended to sign players in his mould in recent seasons and with the midfielder being one of world-class talent, it would come as no surprise to see the Premier League giants table a bid.

Intriguingly, an acceptance of £60m would see Barella become the third-most expensive Red of all time, after only shot-stopper Alisson Becker and defensive stalwart Virgil van Dijk.

Liverpool still have plenty of options in the engine room, but it is still unclear whether Jurgen Klopp fully trusts the likes of Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Having said that, with Inter in a tricky financial position, Liverpool might be tempted to test their resolve. Watch this space.
