Manchester United are on the brink of bringing Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho to Old Trafford with both sides currently locked in negotiations.

Sancho, widely regarded as one of the hottest young prospects in world football, was named in Gareth Southgate's 26-man England squad for Euro 2020.

And while the 21-year-old trained with the squad - hoping to win their first major trophy since the 1966 World Cup - United had a £67m bid turned down by Dortmund.

According to reports from German publication Bild, the German outfit will not budge on their £80m asking price for the tricky winger - with United primed and ready to make another bid which could put them on the verge of completing the signing.

The German newspaper also report that United will try this year at a significantly reduced price given the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

Sancho was close to sealing a £100m move to Old Trafford last summer, but United refused to stump up the funds with the 21-year-old, subsequently, staying in the Bundesliga.

It is believed that United are now ready to pull the trigger on a deal worth around £77m.

United's imminent bid comes as former manager Sir Alex Ferguson has publicly spoken of his admiration for the sought-after player, adding that he has "so much potential".

"I think a lot of Jadon Sancho," Ferguson told Sport Bild, while giving his blessing for United to spend the funds to land him.

He added: "With his one-on-one duels, as an assister and scorer, he is extremely dangerous.

"He has so much potential, he helps the team - that's why he'll be valuable to England over the course of the tournament."

With just months remaining in the summer transfer market, the signs are permission for United and that is also reflected in the latest bettings odds.
