Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur are at war over wantaway forward Harry Kane this transfer window - with both clubs at a standstill over his fee.

Kane took drastic action in his bid to force through a move to the reigning Premier League champions on Monday after he sensationally refused to report for the start of pre-season training with Spurs.

The Citizens are believed to be the frontrunners to sign the 28-year-old, who is pushing for a move away from the north London club in search of silverware - but Tottenham's hefty price tag appears to be putting off potential suitors.

According to Daily Star Sport, City have not given up hope of signing Kane, however, the two clubs remain £40m apart in their respective valuations of the England captain.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is holding out for up to £160m for his prize asset - but City are not prepared to go beyond £120m for Kane.

As a result of that, negotiations are expected to drag on for several weeks due to the complexity of the deal.

And before the transfer window closes on August 31, City will be bracing themselves for talks to go right down to the wire.

Even without playing with a striker for most of the season, Pep Guardiola's side ran away with the title last season, beating their bitter rivals Manchester United by 12 points.

Even without signing Kane, though, City still have plenty of attacking talent - and could even add Jack Grealish to their star-studded squad, too.

City have reportedly put an offer in of £100m to sign the Aston Villa captain, although his current team have offered him a new contract in hopes of keeping him in the Midlands.

The coming weeks look likely to be incredibly busy for City as they hope to conclude the biggest transfer deals in their history. But will they bag both Kane and Grealish? Watch this space.
