The UEFA Euro 2020 Football Championship starts this weekend, after being put off for a year by COVID-19.

And this year is extra special, as it's the tournament's 60th birthday. To celebrate, the matches will be taking place in 11 host cities between 11th June and 11th July.

Everybody wants to know how the opening ceremony will go down this year, after news that Ed Sheeran will be performing his new single virtually on a special TikTok live stream.

The opening ceremony of the Euro's this year will be held at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, where three legendary acts will take centre stage to perform the official UEFA Euro's 2020 song.

There will also be a virtual performance, so fans at home can feel closer to the action.

Who's performing at the UEFA Euro's opening ceremony?

Martin Garrix and U2's Bono and The Edge will come together to perform the Euro's 2020 official song 'We Are The People' underneath a spectacular light display at the start of the ceremony.

The first match between Turkey and Italy will follow.

"The opening ceremony in the Olimpico in Rome will be a fitting preamble to the tournament, and I am pleased that the collaboration between three great artists, Martin Garrix, Bono and The Edge, has also produced a virtual performance that will enable fans across Europe and the world to feel closer to the tournament," said UEFA marketing director Guy-Laurent Epstein.

"We Are The People encapsulates the celebration of togetherness and festivity at the heart of UEFA Euro's 2020, and I am sure fans will be thrilled by the virtual performance whether they are watching at home or online."

Describing the opening ceremony, UEFA said:

"The performance, themed around a real-life live stadium gig, will weave the song's lyrics of hope and positivity, together with powerful imagery brought to life by technology, including the pitch being transformed into a blue-white flame, energy fields created from millions of light particles and Bono projected on to the stage delivering a powerful yet intimate vocal performance that will resonate with the millions watching from home."

And while we wait for that, here's a look at David Guetta performing at the last Euro's opening ceremony - what a performance!

Ed Sheeran to perform at Euro opening ceremony

On 4th June, Ed Sheeran confirmed he'd be performing his new single via a TikTok live stream at the Euro's 2020.

The singer will be filmed at his local football club, Ipswich Town Football Club, on 25th June at 9pm BST.

It will be available exclusively on Ed Sheeran's TikTok channel on 25th June and later made public on 26th June and 9th July for global audiences. That's according to NME.
