Manchester United will take on Villarreal in the 2021 Europa League final on Wednesday night.

The prospect of a second all-English Europa League final in three years disappeared at the final hurdle.

The Red Devils held up their side of the bargain, progressing thanks to an 8-5 aggregate success over Roma.

Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta's Arsenal put in two limp showings against Villarreal and were knocked out by their former manager Unai Emery.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side are favoured to end the Norwegian's Old Trafford trophy drought - and win this competition for the second time in four years - but the Spaniards will be no pushovers.

They impressed in both legs against Arsenal and Emery has experience of getting his side over the line in the Europa League - he won this trophy for three years in succession with Sevilla.

When is the Europa League final?

The 2021 Europa League final will be played on Wednesday, May 26.

This year's final takes place three days before the Champions League final, which is scheduled for Saturday, May 29.

What time is kick-off?

The game will get underway at 8pm (BST).

Where is it?

Stadion Miejski in Gdansk, Poland - which has a capacity of 40,000 - is the venue for the final.

The stadium was originally meant to host the 2020 Europa League final, with Seville's Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium meant to host the 2021 final, but the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic forced a change.

UEFA made the call to host the 2020 Champions League and Europa League finals in Portugal and Lisbon respectively, pushing the original venues for those games back a year.

Also known as the Gdansk Arena, construction of the stadium was completed in 2011 and it served as one of Poland's venues for Euro 2012.

What TV channel is it on?

BT Sport will broadcast the Europa League final on TV in the UK, with BT Sport's digital streaming service providing online access.

The broadcaster has also announced that they will be airing the final, as well as the Champions League final, for free.

Both finals will be available to watch for free on BT Sport's website and on the BT Sport YouTube channel.

In the UK, the matches will also be available to watch on Virgin channel 532 and 533.

Who are the finalists?

Manchester United

Winners of this competition in 2017 and already assured of Champions League qualification having finished second in the Premier League.

Solskjaer is yet to win his first major trophy as manager and this looks a presentable opportunity to do just that.

United were knocked out at the semi-final stage by eventual winners Sevilla last season.

Villarreal

Emery won this competition three years in a row with Sevilla and dispatched his former club Arsenal in the semis.

The Spanish side finished seventh in La Liga, but Emery is judged to be doing a good job, and Samuel Chukwueze, Paco Alcacer and Gerard Moreno are dangerous attacking players.
