England Team News Vs Germany: How Will Three Lions Lineup Tonight?

It is possible that Southgate will revert to a back five for the match against Germany at Wembley Stadium on Tuesday night

The day has finally come and it's time for revenge. Old rivals England and Germany will renew hostilities and clash in the last-16 of Euro 2020 on Tuesday evening.

The Three Lions progressed in first place from Group D to set up a tie with the Germans, who managed to claim the second spot in the tournament's aptly named 'Group of Death'.

Tonight's match against Die Mannschaft will oversee at least 90 minutes of football at Wembley Stadium - the home of English football - which could either make or break the Three Lions' summer.

With that said, Southgate's team selection this evening has to be right, or face being dumped out of the competition by England's oldest rivals - but he has a real task on his hands.

Hoping to book a spot in the quarter-finals against either Sweden or Ukraine, it is possible that the Three Lions boss will revert to a back five for the match against Germany.

And according to The Athletic, Bukayo Saka is set to be rewarded for his sizzling display against the Czech Republic by keeping his place in the starting line-up.

The 19-year-old produced a man-of-the-match display for the Three Lions as they narrowly beat the Czechs 1-0 last week.

Southgate afterwards praised Saka's "exceptional quality" and, as of result of that, the Arsenal forward could be handed his seventh international cap.

If that tactical switch were to happen it is unlikely that either Mason Mount, Jack Grealish or Phil Foden will start tonight's match at Wembley.

Grealish, linked with a big-money move to Manchester City, was handed his first start of the tournament last time out - and will be a trick up Southgate's sleeve on the bench, for sure.

As for Mount, he started England's opening two matches, against Croatia and Scotland respectively, but was forced to sit out the win against the Czech Republic after coming into close contact with Chelsea team-mate Billy Gilmour, who tested positive for COVID-19.

Foden featured in both of England's first two group games against Croatia and Scotland, but was not named in Southgate's 24-man squad against the Czech Republic.

The Three Lions boss later explained that decision was due to Foden picking up a yellow card in their match against Croatia. To put it simply, a second yellow would have made Foden ineligible to play in tonight's game.

Despite many believing Germany are not the force they once were, Southgate is under no illusions of the challenge facing his team.

"They won't fear coming to Wembley," the England boss said during a recent press conference.

"We'll have to play at our very best. We've got to be tactically well prepared, we've got to be physically well prepared and psychologically well prepared."
