Gareth Southgate is to delay the naming of England's final squad for Euro 2020 - which had been scheduled for Tuesday - until next week.

Instead of the final 26 players announced as originally planned, Southgate will name a provisional 30-man extended squad.

The decision has been made given the number of England players involved in this week's Europa League and Champions League finals.

Manchester United face Villarreal in the final of the Europa League on Wednesday, with Manchester City and Chelsea meeting in the Champions League final on Saturday.

It also considers the injuries to key players including Manchester United centre-back Harry Maguire and Burnley keeper Nick Pope.

The likes of Maguire, Pope, Jordan Henderson and Kalvin Phillips are all to be assessed over the coming days, with Southgate set to therefore wait until 1 June at 1pm before naming his final 26.

There remains intense speculation as to whether Liverpool's creative king Trent Alexander-Arnold will make the cut for Southgate, with Kyle Walker, Kieran Trippier and Reece James all vying for right-back berths in the squad.

So far, Euro 2020 squad announcements have been extremely varied, from Germany handing recalls to two veterans, to Spain naming fewer than 26 and Wales opting for the provisional squad route, as Southgate is expected to do.

England's first match of Euro 2020 is against Croatia - their 2018 World Cup semi-final nemesis - on 13 June.

Before that, they have friendlies against Austria on 2 June and Romania on 6 June.

When will the England squad be announced?

Gareth Southgate will name an expanded squad at 1pm BST on Tuesday, May 25.

He was due to name his 26-man squad, but with English teams in European finals this week, the England head coach has decided to wait until June 1 to name his final line-up.

When is the deadline for the squad announcement?

England do not have to name their squad that early.

UEFA's squad deadline is 10 days before the tournament begins, so June 1.

How many players can Southgate pick?

At this stage, as many as he wants, but by June 1 he will need to cut it down to 26.

UEFA has agreed to allow teams to pick a 26-man squad, three bigger than usual, due to the impact of the coronavirus crisis.
