Five-time Ballon d'Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo is no stranger to taking an early shower, but just how many times has he seen a red card in his career?

Like many athletes and fierce competitors, it should come as no surprise when tempers spill over on occasion or when things aren't going their way on the pitch.

As for Ronaldo, well, he has been famed during his illustrious career for challenging a referee's decision and received his first marching orders against Aston Villa on the final day of the 2003-04 Premier League season.

Ronaldo or Messi? That is the question that has dominated football since they stamped their authority on the game nearly two decades ago.

But just how exactly does the Juventus forward measure up to his arch-rival when it comes to crossing the officials?

On the face of it, Ronaldo's red card record is much more damning than that of the Argentine, with the Portuguese phenomenon receiving 11 career reds, compared to Messi's three.

Ronaldo has had five expulsions in a Madrid strip with the first coming against Almeira in the Santiago Bernabeu, for two yellow cards. One was for celebrating a goal without his shirt. Any old excuse to show his body, eh?

Meanwhile, Messi - who has been at Barcelona for 18 years - was shown his first red card for the Catalan club after he lashed out in the Super Cup final in 2021.

Let's face it, Ronaldo and Messi are both superb players and it is hard to decide who is best, however, one thing is for sure - Cristiano is miles better at being sent off.
