PlayStation Have Revealed The “X” Button Is Actually Called “Cross” And People Are Fuming
If you're a keen PlayStation player, then you will have pressed 'X' on countless occasions during your various gaming escapades... Except, no you won't have.
That's because there's no such thing as the 'X' button.
Now, at this point, you're probably itching to call bulls***, however, no lesser authority than the people at PlayStation have come forward to deny the existence of our beloved 'X' button - claiming it is in fact the 'Cross' button.
Taking to Twitter, PlayStation UK said: "Triangle. Circle. Cross. Square. If Cross is called X (it's not), then what are you calling Circle?"
Let that sink in for a second.
If Cross is called X (it's not), then what are you calling Circle? https://t.co/dvQ19duemW

While the mere mention of a 'cross' button is enough to hurt the eyes, ears and soul, there is a rationale behind it - namely that the points of a cross are all equidistant, unlike with an 'X'.
Because this debate grinds my gears, I'll finish it once and for all:
- Crosses have the same distance between each stick.
- Crosses form a square.
- Exes don't have the same distance between each stick.
- Exes form a rectangle.

So there you go, tough to argue with geometry, maths, shapes or indeed PlayStation, isn't it?
But if all this cross talk is making you, well, cross, then take a moment to consider the proposed name below:
Fork? Honestly, what?
Regardless of what PlayStation, geometry or anyone else has to say about it, though, a poll of some 145,000+ (that's a plus symbol by the way and it's not up for debate) respondents has revealed that more than four fifths of us call it the 'X' button.
What do you call it?

So there you have it, the vast majority of people reject the cross, even when the PlayStation boffins themselves have declared that it is a cross, citing irrefutable geometry.
It's a bit like when people decide not to vaccinate their kids, even when doctors and science both say that it is definitely a good idea - the main difference being that people calling a PlayStation controller button the wrong name is of absolutely zero consequence.
