Someone Just Paid $85,000 To Go On A Date With Eugenie Bouchard

And it was all for a good cause

Someone has paid $85,000 (£70,226) to go on a fancy dinner date with tennis star Eugenie Bouchard - all in the name of charity.

The 26-year-old auctioned off a date package for the All In Challenge, which was run in conjunction with the charity 15 Seconds of Fame.

As well as getting a chance to meet Bouchard in the flesh and have dinner with her, the lucky winner will also get a chance to watch her play tennis and receive some signed merch.

Sharing a screenshot of the winning bid on her Instagram Stories, Bouchard wrote: "This... is insane... you guys are amazing!!!"

In a follow-up post, she wrote: "85K?!?!? you guys are AMAZING!!! i'm so grateful and proud of you all for joining me on this project. i can't wait to meet the winner! this will help those in need so much."

In total 37 bids were placed, starting with $2,500 (£2,065) and going all the way up to the winning bid, before the auction closed on 15 May.

A description of the lucky recipients prize reads: "Get more than your 15 seconds of fame with Genie Bouchard.

"The lucky winner and a guest will go to any tennis tournament of their choice. That's right, US Open, French Open, Wimbledon or the Australian Open - Genie has the airfare covered.

"Sit in the player's box next to Genie's team and coach while you cheer her on to victory.

"Enjoy a meal with the tennis star and even get a racket and sneakers signed by Genie herself."

Of course, this isn't the first time Bouchard has agreed to go on a date with a fan. Who can forget when John Goehrke decided to try his luck on Twitter in 2017? He managed to bag himself a date, which then led to a second date and ended up with the pair forming a bit of a friendship.

Goehrke showed us all how it was done back during the Super Bowl when he casually asked Bouchard: "If the Patriots win we go on a date?" To which the tennis ace replied 'sure' - and when they did, she remained true to her word and the pair ended up going to a Brooklyn Nets game together.

Bouchard then agreed to a second date, and was snapped on a third, and she also shared some photos of them hanging out together around Christmas time in 2017.

However, whether romance flourished or not, it seems as though Bouchard is most definitely single at the moment, as she tweeted just last month to say: "Not complaining, but I feel like quarantine would be a lot more fun with a boyfriend."
