Man Dumped At The Races Before He Won More Than £400,000 On £5 Bet

"She's pretty much told me 'listen, Kenny, I can't really feel it. This is not gonna go anywhere. I've got to get the five o'clock train."

Loads of people would have been licking their lips yesterday after winning big (or small) on the 2019 Melbourne Cup.

Whether they walked away with a fiver or a few zeros, it's always a fun day when you win some money. But one bloke went home with an incredible amount after the big race had some unexpected twists and turns.

Vow and Declare was named the winner, and while Master of Reality technically came second, it was relegated to fourth because it was found guilty of interference.

This netted one man named Kenny a whopping $793,000 (£427,000) from a $10 (£5) bet on a final four.

While that's enough for a legendary Melbourne Cup story, what happened just before the race makes it even better.

Kenny has told SEN Radio that he went to Flemington Racecourse on a date with a woman from the Gold Coast that he knew from high school.

He said: "The girl I was out with said, 'did you win?' I said, 'I put those horses on, I don't know, I'll check later'.

"She's pretty much told me, 'listen, Kenny, I can't really feel it. This is not gonna go anywhere. I've got to get the five o'clock train'.

"I said, 'ah well, yeah, no worries, thanks for being honest'.

PA

"I'll be completely honest with you I watched the race and I was not aware, I was completely oblivious. I thought at least the day's not over, I'll open up my account, there's still a couple of races to go at the majors.

"I opened up my account and started screaming... I've just seen all these numbers and I'm speechless. I'm gasping. Oh my f'n god.

"Everyone in the restaurant on Southbank is looking at me like what's wrong with this clown. She said, 'sit down, what are you doing, you're embarrassing me'. I said, 'can you just read this for me?' and she's started screaming!"

PA

"I sent her packing. 'Listen, you better get your train'. I'm not joking either."

Kenny says he spoilt everyone for the rest of the day and made sure to lap up the good times while they were flowing.

The woman chalked up the whole ordeal as a 'story of her life'.

Kenny says he will still keep his job but will treat himself for a bit and then probably buy a property on the Gold Coast. Now that is a bloody good Melbourne Cup story.
