Floyd Mayweather has opened up the possibility of a rematch with Conor McGregor by calling out the Irishman and saying he'll 'whip' the UFC's stars 'a**.'

The last time Mayweather was in a ring in a professional fight was against McGregor in August 2017, with 'Money' only having an exhibition fight since.

Late last year he revealed that he would be coming out of retirement at some point in 2020 and that he'd be working with UFC president Dana White, opening up the possibility of him fighting a star from the MMA company again.

Now the 43-year-old has called out the Irishman. "Man if they pay I'm there to play," he told TMZ Sports.

"And if they're paying cash Conor I'll whip your ass... again

"I do what I do everywhere, I pick up money I get paid to tell my story."

McGregor switched from MMA to boxing for his first ever professional fight in the sport to take on one of the best of the generation and for much of the fight Mayweather's superiority shone through.

The American, who has a 50-0 record, finally ended the fight in the 10th round but speaking to Revolt TV earlier this month the 43-year-old claimed he could have finished it earlier, saying, "I took it serious, but like I said before, I wanted to have some fun in the fight.

"I wanted to entertain the people. So you know, just lead with that style that I had which was entertaining, it was fun, so that the people enjoyed it. So you have to give people a show, so I gave people a show. If I wanted to go out and f**k him up and blaze him right out the gate, I could have did that. But you know, my thing is if I would have did that, there probably wouldn't be a part two."

The Notorious has one win and one loss in his UFC career since returning from boxing. He lost to Khabib Nurmagomedov, who has also been linked with a fight against Mayweather, in October 2018 before another 15 month absence.

He returned in January 2020 to defeat Donald Cerrone in just 40 seconds and has talked about fighting three times this year.

According to reports, McGregor's next fight is expected to be against Justin Gaethje in the summer, with preliminary talks having already begun.
