Anthony Joshua has gone from a Wladimir Klitschko rematch to facing Kubrat Pulev to now facing Carlos Takam as the Bulgarian has pulled out with injury. The news was confirmed by Eddie Hearn on Twitter.

Originally this fight was supposed to be in Las Vegas for AJ and Klitschko to go at it again but the Ukrainian decided to retire and that led to a title defence against IBF mandatory challenger Kubrat Pulev being announced.

Pulev has only lost once previously and that was to Klitschko so it was setting up to be an extremely intriguing fight, one that Joshua was favourite to win but he would have to be focused to make sure he did win it.

On Monday night, October 16th, rumours started circulating that Pulev had pulled out with an injury and later in the evening promoter Eddie Hearn took to Twitter to confirm the news and announce the new challenger for October 28th:

36 year-old Takam actually fought Joshua Parker to be the number one contender for Joshua's IBF title back in May 2016 and lost in a fight that went the judges cards.

With Parker eventually going for and winning the WBO version of the title Pulev became the number one contender but his injury has led to Takam getting the title shot as the number three contender.
