As shocking as Anthony Joshua's first career defeat at the hands of Andy Ruiz was, that's simply the implications of of taking a picture with Drake.

By now it's become knowledge that bad things happen to anyone who poses for a picture with October's Very Own. The infamous 'Drake curse' has claimed a whole host of victims.

The Canadian walked out with Conor McGregor for his UFC 229 fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov in October and that ended with the Irishman getting easily submitted and then at the centre of a post-fight melee in the Octagon.

It's been so common in the world football that AS Roma banned their players from taking pictures with Drake because they know what was coming.

And now it's made its way to boxing. Joshua vowed to put an end to the curse after posting a picture of the two in his gym on Instagram.

Clearly AJ was well aware of the curse as he also joked Drake would be banned from his dressing room on fight night.

And he felt the Drake voodoo spell in full force as he succumbed to a shock defeat to Ruiz in his American debut. Knocked down four times by the Mexican-American, the referee stopped the fight in the seventh round to see the IBF, WBA 'Super' and WBO titles change hands in shocking fashion.

Joshua is slated for an immediate rematch around November/December time back on home soil but you better believe he'll be staying away from 'Drizzy'...
