There is such a good thing as a good loser.

Last night Wladimir Klitschko and Anthony Joshua went to war in one of heavyweight boxing's classic fights. After the match the former champ and defeated Klitschko sent a classy message.

90,000 packed into Wembley Stadium as the national footballing stadium was transformed into a amphitheatre of battle between two of the world's best heavyweight boxers.

The action was breathtaking with the Ukrainian surviving a knockdown in the fifth, coming back strongly in that round and then scoring his own knockdown in the sixth.

At that point it looked like the 41 year old was going to reclaim the WBA (super), IBF and IBO belts that he'd lost to Tyson Fury 17 months earlier.

But Joshua hung on and came back strong before knocking Klitschko onto the floor twice in the 11th before the referee eventually stopped it with the older man on the ropes, literally and figuratively.

After the fight the former champ was very respectful and this morning sent another respectful message, this time on Twitter:

The build up to the fight didn't turn into the war of words that a lot of fights seem to have slipped into in recent times as the pair decided to concentrate on what happened in the ring.

Klitschko has now lost for his fifth time in his career and the fourth time he's been stopped, it's also the second time in a row that he's lost to an undefeated British boxer.

What happens night for the experienced fighter who dominated the division for nearly a decade is anyone's guess.

Joshua moves to 19-0 and has ended all those bouts inside the distance, even if the 11th round was by far the longest he'd been taken.

Next up for Joshua could be a rematch, a fight with IBF mandatory challenger Kubrat Pulev or a tasty match up with either Deontay Wilder or Tyson Fury.

What a night!
