Canelo Alvarez and Caleb Plant will reportedly take home 'guaranteed' eight-figure paydays for their highly-anticipated main event in Las Vegas.
Both fighters went head-to-head at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in a bid to become boxing's first undisputed super-middleweight champion and Canelo came out on top, knocking out Plant in the 11th round to become undisputed king.
There is no doubting the Mexican fighter's stature in the sport right now and his 'guaranteed' purse for the bout highlights that.

Alvarez, who has held 15 different versions of a world title in his career to date, will secure $40 million for the main event fight, according to journalist Dan Rafael.
Plant, meanwhile, will pick up a very respectable $10 million in Vegas this weekend.
It must be noted that both fighters' pay cheque will not be final until the official pay-per-view sales of the fight drop.

Rafael took to Twitter on Sunday morning and questioned the entire UFC 268 card's combined purse compared to that of Canelo vs Plant.
"What's the entire #UFC268 card combined purse?" he wrote. "I'd imagine a tiny fraction of that."
It certainly got people talking on social media.
The #CaneloPlant #boxing main event combined guaranteed money is $50 million -- $40M for Canelo, $10M for Plant. What's the entire #UFC268 card combined purse? I'd imagine a tiny fraction of that.

There's a reason why Usman is talking about fighting Canelo. Don't hear Canelo asking to fight an MMA guy. $$$$$$$$$ #boxing #CaneloPlant #UFC268 https://t.co/2MRskz2VHm

Why is it that boxing has such a bigger payout than the ufc?

I love MMA and Boxing. The one thing I will say. UFC repeatedly puts on way better cards than boxing does. That cannot be disputed. And more times than not, the best actually fight the best in the UFC. Not as many weight classes and belts help that out too.

Canelo is guaranteed $40 million tonight, per @DanRafael1.
And you wonder why MMA fighters are trying to box...
