Canelo Alvarez would be open to fighting UFC superstar Conor McGregor in a boxing bout, according to the boxing world champion's trainer.

McGregor stunningly called out Canelo during a home workout in Dublin, Ireland, amid lockdown.

He posted a video on social media which shows 'The Notorious' putting in work on a boxing bar, before shouting the Mexican's name.

And Team Canelo has finally responded to McGregor's call out with trainer Eddy Reynoso saying they would be willing to box McGregor.

"The reports are pure speculation because right now there is no news about anything, there are no fights," he said.

"Boxing is a business. Saúl right now is the best fighter pound for pound and if McGregor jumps into boxing, then we are going to hit him."

However, Reynoso ruled out a meeting inside the famed Octagon. He added: "What we are not going to do is get into a cage [to fight McGregor]."

McGregor expressed his desire to compete in another boxing bout following his 2017 Las Vegas showdown with Floyd Mayweather.

Speaking prior to his UFC comeback against Donald Cerrone, the 31-year-old said: "I would be open to other boxing bouts. We were actually close to signing [a deal with] Manny [Pacquiao].

"There's been talks about the fight with Manny. There was an offer made on that.

"I'd like to box Paulie [Malignaggi] as well. Why not? That's a bit of buzz, Paulie in a boxing bout. I want to box again. I will box again. I want to get a boxing world title. A boxing title is something [I want]."

Will McGregor enter the ropes again? Watch this space.
