Mike Tyson Makes Strong Claim Wladimir Klitschko's Boxing Ability

Mike Tyson Makes Strong Claim Wladimir Klitschko's Boxing Ability

Mike Tyson fully backed fellow boxing legend Wladimir Klitschko to be a world heavyweight champion in any era of boxing.

Former unified champ Klitschko, 44, became a dominant force in the heavyweight division from the mid-2000s until his stunning defeat against Tyson Fury in 2015.

During an 'Ask Me Anything' on Reddit, a fan asked Tyson for his verdict on Klitschko's long reign over heavyweight boxing.

The fan pointed to criticisms about the Ukrainian dominating for so long due to the lack of world-class boxers.

But the fan also asked Tyson if he thought Klitschko would have been a "formidable heavyweight champion even in the 'Golden Age?'"

Boxing legend Tyson had no doubt in his mind that 'Dr Steelhammer' could have held his own in eras featuring the likes of Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier, George Foreman and Rocky Marciano.

'Iron' Mike replied: "I think he would have done well in any era."

Klitschko returned to boxing in 2017 to fight Anthony Joshua for the world championship titles at Wembley.

But 'AJ' would defeat the once-mighty Ukrainian in a stunning 11th-round TKO victory.

Despite his lengthy championship reign in boxing, Klitschko suggested that he wasn't a "great champion."

"I know people have perceptions when it comes to judging greatness, but I think I was lucky.

"Any sport, especially a full contact one, has a connection with injuries and they stop a lot of great performers.

"I was injured a bunch of times but I had the good fortune to be able to continue for a long period of time.

"I also have a healthy lifestyle and I was dedicated to the sport.

"The discipline I got from my father, who was an officer in the Soviet Army, was also important."
