Boxing legend Mike Tyson offered a surprising response to one fan asking who was the toughest opponent he faced in his life.

The 54-year-old American superstar was widely revered for his formidable power and ferocious style of boxing in the 1980s.

However, Tyson started to decline towards the end of his career and also had a chequered history outside of the squared circle.

During a Reddit AMA, one user asked the 'Baddest Man on the Planet' to identify the "hardest opponent [he] faced inside and outside of the boxing ring."

The former undisputed world heavyweight champ responded with a simple statement: "Me, Mike Tyson."

Tyson served time in prison during the 1990s after he was convicted of rape and also filed for bankruptcy in 2003.

However, 'Iron' Mike has since picked up his life and is currently plotting a return to boxing as part of a series of exhibition fights.

The Hall of Famer went viral in March when he broke down in tears talking about how much he misses boxing.

But 'Iron' Mike went on to say that he feared the 'old' Tyson coming back and suggested "hell is coming with him" if that happened.

Joined by Sugar Ray Leonard, he said on Hotboxin' With Mike Tyson: "I'm a f*****g student of war.

"I know all the warriors. From Charlemagne to Achilles -- the number one warrior of all warriors -- and then Alexander and Napoleon, I know them all. I read about them all. I studied them all. I know the art of fighting, I know the art of war, that's all I ever studied.

"That's why I'm so feared, that's why they feared me when I was in the ring. I was an annihilator. It's all I was born for.

"Now those days are gone. It's empty, I'm nothing. I'm working on the art of humbleness.

"That's the reason I'm crying because I'm not that person no more, and I miss him.

"Because sometimes I feel like a b***h because I don't want that person to come out because if he comes out, hell is coming with him.

"And it's not funny at all. I sound cool like I'm a tough guy [but] I hate that guy. I'm scared of him."
