'I Truly Believe' - Khabib Nurmagomedov Snubs Canelo Alvarez By Naming The Best Boxer In The World

UFC legend Khabib Nurmagomedov has claimed that he "truly" believes that Tyson Fury is the best boxer in the world ahead of Canelo Alvarez.

The 32-year-old Russian superstar called it time on an illustrious fighting career with a sensational second-round win over Justin Gaethje at UFC 254 in October 2020.

Khabib, who retired with an unblemished professional MMA record of 29-0, is widely regarded as one of the best fighters in the history of combat sports.

The Eagle is also a big fan of boxing and an admirer of legendary fighters like Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson.

Khabib recently made an appearance on an episode of Hotboxin' with Mike Tyson alongside the Baddest Man on the Planet, Henry Cejudo and Ali Abdelaziz.

While the episode of Hotboxin' hasn't officially aired, Khabib spoke with reporters afterwards and was asked questions like who would win in a fight between Cejudo and Hasbulla Magomedov.

The former UFC lightweight champion was also asked for his thoughts on who is currently the best boxer in the world.

Khabib admitted that it was a "very close" debate after naming the likes of Canelo, Oleksandr Usyk and Terence Crawford.

But the future UFC Hall of Famer believes that Fury is at the "top" ahead of pound-for-pound king Canelo.

Khabib told ESNEWS: "Right now? I truly believe Tyson Fury is the best.

"Heavyweight and undefeated and he beat everybody. Like very close, like Canelo, Usyk, Crawford, like all these guys very close.

"Like just my opinion like top like Tyson Fury right now."

Fury, 32, was initially set to defend his WBC championship against Deontay Wilder in their trilogy fight on 24th July.

However, the fight has now been delayed to 9th October after an outbreak of COVID-19 in the Fury camp.

Anthony Joshua will now defend his championship titles against Usyk at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on 25th September after the unification bout with Fury fell through.

Khabib praised Usyk ahead of the Joshua fight, but he also claimed that Fury vs Wilder would be comparable to a "semi-final."

"Like winner, they have to fight versus Tyson Fury-Wilder winner," he continued.

"Like a semi-final. But right now, I believe Tyson Fury is the best."
