John Fury Explains Why Tyson Should Retire Amid Potential Mega-Unification Clash With Anthony Joshua

Tyson Fury's father has shockingly told his son to walk away from boxing after suggesting that he has "done enough to prove [himself]."

The 31-year-old Brit superstar completed his incredible boxing comeback last Saturday after he stopped Deontay Wilder in Las Vegas.

But Fury's path back to the top of the boxing world started with his battle against mental health and substance abuse after several years out.

The 'Gypsy King' now has a potential pathway to becoming an undisputed heavyweight champion by setting up a mega-unification match with fellow Brit Anthony Joshua.

However, John Fury wants his son to focus on his wellbeing and wants him to "pack it in now."

The 55-year-old former boxer told Good Morning Britain: "I want my son to retire now. He's done enough to prove [himself].

"It's been an uphill battle for him. He's done enough. I want him to pack it in now.

"I think it's in the back of his mind. He can't do anymore. Enough is enough. He's given all."

Fury relinquished the world heavyweight titles that he won in his stunning upset against Wladimir Klitschko in 2015 as he battled his personal issues outside of boxing.

The newly-crowned WBC champ fought Sefer Seferi and Francesco Pianeta three years later before he targeted Wilder in their initial 2018 blockbuster fight.

John admitted that he thought there was "no hope" his son would return to boxing after his time outside of the ring.

"I'll be honest, I'm sat here today and I still keep pinching myself because where he was two years ago there was no hope, basically," he explained.

"He was that low, he went that far back, I didn't think he was ever going to get back. A light switch just went on and off and here we are today.

"But I just think to myself there's more to life than we see with the eye, there's got to be, because he was in such a mess.

"It was a dark time, when you see a man who was like drinking himself to death to escape reality, and he was eating all kinds of food and a bucket load. And he was doing it in front of you.

"When your son stops caring what you think as a father and a parent, that's time to worry."

Tyson called his father after his incredible performance against Wilder and the pair shared a touching conversation about his win on the night.
