Tyson Fury's Voice Was Very Different Before Being Punched In The Throat

Tyson Fury's Voice Was Very Different Before Being Punched In The Throat

Tyson's Fury voice is instantly recognisable - whether it's from his many iconic soundbites in press conferences and interviews or his post-fight sing-songs.

But boxing fans who have followed Fury's incredible career from early will know that the way in which he talks now has not always been his normal speaking voice.

In fact, watch his first ever press conference ahead of his professional debut on the Carl Froch vs Jean Pascal undercard and Fury, with his spaghetti-like haircut, sounds like a completely different person.

These days the Gypsy King speaks with a raspy, husky tone that some thought he developed following the drug and alcohol addiction he suffered from during his difficult period away from the ring.

However, it was actually a direct result of being punched in the throat during a sparring session with light heavyweight boxer Ty Mitchell back in 2015.

The WBC world champion explained his voice change during an interview with BBC Radio 1 last year: "I got punched in the throat in 2015 and it left me with a blood clot in the throat. So it causes me to talk like this. I was supposed to have it removed and I got too afraid.

"I think it sounds better anyway, there's more pain in it."

Fury's voice change threatened to stop him busting out the Karaoke classics to begin with but fans have since been accustomed to hearing the WBC world champion's rendition of Don McLean's 1971 hit 'American Pie' - when he stopped Deontay Wilder in Las Vegas.

He's also proved he can more than carry a tune by collaborating with Robbie Williams for the 'Bad Santa' Christmas single.

But the most frightening bit about Fury sounding like he smokes 20 a day, is the fact both he and his dad John have exactly the same voice.

Cover your eyes and it's genuinely quite difficult to work out who's speaking...
