US President Donald Trump’s 'Conspiracy Theory' Surrounding Floyd Mayweather’s 'Fix' Victory Resurfaces

US President Donald Trump’s 'Conspiracy Theory' Surrounding Floyd Mayweather’s 'Fix' Victory Resurfaces

Donald Trump claimed that Floyd Mayweather's hard-fought victory over Marcos Maidana was a "fix" and branded the judges' decision as a "disgrace."

Boxing legend Mayweather, 43, fought Argentine Maidana for the first time on 3rd May 2014 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

And 'Money' walked away with a majority decision victory as the judges scored the bout 114-114, 117-111 and 116-112.

But Mayweather didn't have an easy time in the bout as Maidana surprised many fans by aggressively taking the fight to the future Hall of Famer.

Trump's tweets from the time of the fight have recently resurfaced as he was stunned by the fact that Mayweather was awarded the victory.

The 73-year-old American, who became US president in 2016, argued that an "investigation should take place" into the decision.

Trump tweeted: "Floyd Mayweather is being beaten up badly through 10 rounds by Marcos Maidana, but announcers say it is even. TWO ROUNDS LEFT.

"NO WAY, JUDGES SAY MAYWEATHER WON. INVESTIGATION SHOULD TAKE PLACE. FIX?"

Mayweather, who retired from boxing undefeated in 2017, was under pressure from Maidana's aggressive approach and even suffered a rare cut in the fourth round.

The ex-boxing superstar called Maidana a "true champion, true competitor and a hell of a fighter."

Mayweather added: "He was rugged, a tough guy. Everybody used to seeing me dominate. People saying, 'What's wrong with Floyd?' I think tonight we gave everybody the excitement they want.

"If he feels he won? September. He can get it again. Absolutely. I could have made the fight a lot easier if I wanted to. Did those rights hurt? He's a strong fighter. I came in at 148, he came in at 165."

The pair would rematch in September of that year and Mayweather silenced his critics by securing a unanimous decision victory over Maidana.
