Conor McGregor has promised boxing legend Mike Tyson that he will "crack the puzzle" and "beat" Floyd Mayweather in a potential rematch.

The 31-year-old UFC superstar traded blows with the undefeated Mayweather in a blockbuster crossover fight in 2017.

McGregor, who made his sensational UFC return in January, went 10 rounds with 'Money' before the fight was stopped in Las Vegas.

During the latest episode of Hotboxin' w/ Mike Tyson, Tyson launched a staunch defence of McGregor's performance and argued he went 10 rounds with the "greatest fighter of the last 100 years of boxing."

McGregor has since seen the clip and tweeted out a message to the 53-year-old boxing legend and promised to avenge his defeat to Mayweather.

The 'Notorious' tweeted: "Thank you Mike, and just know that for the inevitable rematch, with the knowledge I now hold of Floyd's style, plus under the tutelage of my old school boxing coach, I will crack the puzzle, and I will beat Floyd.

"I promise my life on it. It is great to see you back Iron Mike."

Tyson's latest podcast episode had him joined alongside Francis Ngannou, who scored a sensational first-round victory over Jairzinho Rozenstruik at UFC 249 last week.

When 'Iron' Mike was asked about McGregor's performance against Mayweather, he shut down any criticism directed towards the Irish star on his boxing debut.

"Listen, he went 10 rounds with the greatest fighter of the last 100 years of boxing [...] scored punches," Tyson said.

"Look what he had to fight against and look what he did when he fought against it."

Mayweather, 43, retired undefeated with an unblemished record of 50-0 after his victory over McGregor.

But the boxing legend has continued to fire out shots at the Irishman and even admitted he is 'ready to whip his a**e' in a rematch.
