He may have suffered a brutal sixth round knockout at the hands of Saul Alvarez last night, but Amir Khan has won the respect of Conor McGregor.

The Irishman, who himself suffered a humbling defeat recently when he tapped out to Nate Diaz at UFC 196, praised the Bolton native for taking a fight at a higher weight division, as McGregor also did for his defeat to Diaz.

Khan moved up two weight divisions to middleweight for his bout with Alvarez last night, fighting at a catchweight of 155lbs. Despite the defeat, via a huge right hand from Alvarez, the 29-year-old insists he has no regrets about making the step up.

"I'm a natural 147 (pounds) fighter, but this challenge came and it was very hard to turn down," Khan told host American broadcasters HBO after the fourth defeat of his 35-fight career.

"I want to be the best, I want to fight the best and that's why I took this fight.

"I'm one of those fighters that will step in the ring with whoever.

"I showed my bravery by getting in the ring with Canelo, but this is boxing."
